Special yoga charity event success

Herefordshire senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher Sheila Green and fellow teacher Fiona Hawkins organised a special yoga event as part of the recently instated  United Nations International Yoga Day celebrations. The event took place at Sheila’s Yoga Studio at Trolway Brook Cottage in Garway, with sixteen of their students taking part in a ‘Special Summer Solstice Practice Programme’ prepared by Dr Geeta Iyengar, daughter of BKS Iyengar who died last year at the age of 95.

It was BKS Iyengar who first suggested that the UN should establish an International Yoga Day in a proposal he put to the Indian Prime Minister in 2011. Well over £200 was raised and this will be shared between The Haven Breast Cancer Centre in Hereford where Sheila and Fiona teach remedial yoga to those going through treatment for breast cancer and to The Macmillan Nurses.
